The police have arrested at least eight people, including local leaders of Swechchhasebak League, for their alleged involvement in an attempt of snatching an accused from the Shajahanpur police station in Bogura.

The incident took place on Saturday night. Eight policemen sustained injuries during the snatching attempt, while two have been admitted to hospital. Following the arrests, the police conducted a drive and recovered two foreign pistols, along with seven rounds of bullets.

Top terrorist Naruzzaman who was the main culprit behind the incident was also arrested by the police. It was known that the accused attacked Bogura’s Shajahanpur police station around 10:30 p.m. At least six policemen were seriously injured. Two of them have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses and Thana Police, based on secret information, a team of police led by SI Arup Anichur Rahman arrested Mithun along with two Burmese knives and native weapons in the Ariya Bazar area at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Mithun, General Secretary of the Arya Union Swachhasebak League, is involved in several cases, including murder cases. When the accused was arrested by police Majhira UP Chairman Nuruzzaman, entered Shajahanpur police station and started vandalism the thana.

After hearing the news of vandalism, officer in charge (OC), Shahidul Islam, came to the the police station and saw Nuruzzaman and his forces creating obstacles by sitting on the stairs.

When OC Shahidul Islam asked him to move away from the stairs , Nuruzzaman pushed the OC inside the police station and tried to snatch the main accused, Mithun, from the jail.

Then Nuruzzaman and his terrorist forces ambushed the police, and at least six police officers of the Thana were injured. Then Nuruzzaman and his people fled from the Thana premises.

Later, Nuruzzaman and other people gathered together and took a position near the Dhaka-Bogura highway intermediate ground to attack again. At that time, members of the district police, RAB, and law enforcement forces immediately arrested the terrorist Nuruzzaman, along with 4-5 of his associates.

According to the police, there are at least 8–10 cases against Nuruzzaman for murder, possessing illegal weapons, land grabbing, obstructing government work, and violating drug law. Earlier, Nuruzzaman was dismissed for stealing government tenders.

Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shajahanpur Police Station, said that when the young man named Mithun was arrested at the police station with two Burmese knives, Nuruzzaman and his men tried to snatch him from the police station. At one point, they attacked the police.

Eight people have been arrested so far in yesterday’s incident. And in this incident, a case has been filed against 25 people and some unknown others. 7–8 policemen were injured in the attack. Two of them are hospitalised.
