JnU Correspondent :
Kazi Farjana Mim, a student of Jagannath University’s film and television department, has lodged a complaint of sexual harassment with the University Chancellor, seeking a meeting to address the issue.

Mim expressed concerns of receiving death threats and facing expulsion from university teachers after accusing a departmental faculty member of sexual misconduct.

Submitting her plea at Bangabhaban on Tuesday, Mim appealed for justice regarding the alleged harassment and bullying she endured.

The petition comes amidst the tragic suicide of another student, Abantika, who had accused friends and the administration of unfair treatment before taking her life.

In response to the distressing events, Jagannath University’s General Students convened a press meeting on Wednesday, demanding a swift and impartial investigation into Abantika’s suicide, along with a five-point charter addressing the incident.

Mim’s application to the Chancellor outlines her previous attempts to seek justice through the university’s Sexual Harassment Prevention Cell, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor.

Despite these efforts, she claims to have faced further victimization, including failing multiple subjects in her honours exams, allegedly orchestrated by the accused teacher and department chairman.

Detailing the ongoing ordeal, Mim described facing threats of expulsion, exam failure, isolation, and mental torture, which have pushed her to the brink of suicide.

Seeking intervention as her last resort, Mim implored the Chancellor for exemplary prosecution of the harassment and accountability from the administration.

She urged a thorough re-examination of her academic matters by a special committee appointed by the Chancellor to restore her academic integrity and well-being.

Mim’s plea underscores the critical need for prompt and effective action to address instances of harassment and ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students at Jagannath University.
