Staff Reporter :
The city dwellers have suffered heavy traffic congestion on the first working day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Most of the commuters including the Officegoers had to endure long tailbacks at the various traffic signals and gridlocks on several roads and highways on Tuesday.

Yesterday was the first Iftar of Ramadan. Everyone wants to spend the first Ramadan Iftar with their family. Iftar after office or personal work can be uncertain for many people due to heavy traffic congestion.

People in some areas of the capital are uneasy and in troubles about the issue. The big challenge of the traffic department is to keep at least 14 routes of the capital including Moghbazar, Malibagh, Karwan Bazar, Gulistan, and Motijheel Mirpur Road free of pressure before Iftar.

Apart from this, additional pressure has also been created in the metro rail.

Besides, compared to earlier days, there was heavy traffic on the Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Mohakhali, and Nabisco to Airport roads.
Many commuters expressed their dissatisfaction for not being able to reach the office on time. And even not to reach their destinations for Iftar.

Intensifying the issue, some people fear that the situation will get worse when people start shopping for Eid-ul-Fitr.

The authorities should take action to manage traffic congestion during Ramadan to reduce the suffering, many commuters said. In this regard, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said there will be special measures from 3 pm to 7 pm to control traffic during the holy month of Ramadan.

He said that action will be taken against anyone who illegally parks a car on the road.

He said this at a press conference on overall security and traffic management in Dhaka metropolitan area on Monday noon (March 11) on the occasion of the upcoming month of Ramadan. DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said, we have several challenges in the month of Ramadan.

The traffic is one of the biggest challenges. Police are working to control the traffic. Traffic control also requires the awareness and cooperation of city dwellers.
