Bangladesh Under-16 Women’s Football team clinched the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-16 Women’s Championship defeating India Under-16 Women’s Football team by 3-2 goals in the tie-breaker at the ANFA Complex in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal on Sunday. The red and green female booters became unbeaten champions in the football meet.
Bangladesh goalie Yearzan Begum played the key role to win the final for Bangladesh against India.
The stipulated ninety-minute match ended in a 1-1 draw. Thus, the fate of the match was decided in the penalty shoot-out. India led the first half 1-0.
Anushka Kumari of India put her team ahead in the fourth minute of the play.
Mariam Binte Manna of Bangladesh levelled the margin in the 71st minute of the match.
Bangladesh custodian Yearzan Begum saved three penalty kicks in the tie-breaker. Sauravi Akanada failed to put her team ahead in the spot kick. Indian female booter scored in the first spot-kick.
Yearzan Begum saved her team of Indian booters second and third shots.
Mariam scored the first goal for Bangladesh in the third shot and Thuinui Marma scored the second goal for Bangladesh in the fourth shot. Thus, Bangladesh got 2-1 lead.
Indian booter scored the fourth shot thus they equalised the margin 2-2. Sathi Munda scored in the fifth shot and Bangladesh led 3-2.
Yearzan Begum thwarted the fifth shot of Indian booters. Thus, Bangladesh won the match by 3-2 goals in the tie-breaker.
On the way to final, Bangladesh beat Nepal by two goals to nil in their first group match of the meet at the same venue on March 2.
Bangladesh defeated India by 3-2 goals in their second group match of the competition at the same venue on March 5.
The red and green outfit crushed Bhutan by six goals to nil in their last group match at the same venue on March 8.
