‘Doctors remain absent in hospitals’

Health and Family Welfare Minister Professor Dr Samanta Lal Sen on Tuesday said that he found allegations in everywhere that physicians remain absent from hospitals.

“I know that physicians have many obstacles and problems. However, they have to serve the people as their responsibility.

But I hear allegation in the National Parliament and from everywhere that the physicians remain absent from hospitals,” he said at the 10th National Neurology Conference at the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall at Shahbag in the capital.

The minister, however, said physicians in rural areas to get special facilities, special opportunities include financial incentives.

“We are working for facilitating special incentives for the healthcare professionals who are providing medical services to the rural areas,” he said.

Large segments of people are living in rural areas, where the government is trying to reach treatment facilities to the door steps of the common people there.

He urged the medical professionals particularly in rural areas as well as hard-to-reach areas to extend health services for upholding professional dignity and responsibility. Bangladesh has advanced remarkably in the field of neurological arena, he said.

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Rokeya Sultana called the physicians to achieve professional excellence as medical science is constantly progressing.

“Physicians should be involved with research works for enhancing their professional efficiency,” Dr Rokeya said. President of Society of Neurologist of Bangladesh Prof Md Badrul Alam presided over the programme.

Secretary of Health Service Division Md Jahangir Alam, President of Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad Professor Dr Jamaluddin Chowdhury, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam and Director General of Directorate of Health Professor Dr Tito Mian, among others, were present at the event.
