Political parties become deinstitutionalised: Rehman Sobhan

Eminent economist and Chairmen of the Centre for Policy Dialogue, Rehman Sobhan on Saturday said deinstitutionalisation of the political parties caused stopping progress of the society in Bangladesh. “The political party has become deinstitutionalised.

The political parties become an gathering of people now only motivated by the sponsorship and the protection of the selective application of law to stay in business,” he said while addressing a discussion titled ‘The Emergence and Rise of Dominant Party State in Bangladesh: What Consequence from Democracy and Development,’ held in the capital.

The economist described it as a ‘very dangerous situation’ for becoming a more developed society.

The discussion was organised by South Asian Network on Economic Modeling as a part of its 7th annual economists’ conference in February 23-25.

The economist urged the political parties to be more responsible for make the society more progressive.
