Faridpur sugar mill is in the process of being taken over by the private company S Alam Group. A human chain and protest march was held at the main gate of Faridpur Sugar Mill on Monday afternoon organised by Sugar Mill Workers Union to protest the transfer process of Faridpur Sugar Mill located in Madhukhali to the private sector. Under the chairmanship of President of the Labor Union Shaheen Mia, General Secretary of Labor Union Majhharul Islam, Center Director of Agriculture Department Nirmal Kumar Sarkar, Transport Department Kamaluddin, Finance Secretary Moniruzzaman, General Administration and Accounts Department member Matiar Rahman Miya spoke on the occasion. After the human chain a protest march circled the sugar mill area and ended at the main gate. The speakers said that the only heavy industry in greater Faridpur built by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should be made profitable by keeping it under government patronage instead of giving it to the private sector. He demanded to sustain the sugar industry.
