Barguna Sadar’s Purba Hajar Bigha Battola Senior Madrasa is under MPO, but the bills (salaries) of some teachers and staff have been delayed.
Consequently, Abdus Salam, principal of the institution, has been lobbying best since long to get the teachers due bills.
In this situation, two people who identified themselves as Deputy Secretary and Program Officer of the Department of Madrasa Education contacted the principal.
A total of 14 lakh taka was taken in several rounds in 2021 but the bill was not received. Later, the gang changed their SIMs too without contacting.
Later, Principal Abdus Salam inquired after the communication was lost. And finally he could know that there is no one named Zubair or Assaduzzaman Manik and Abdul Gaffar or Suman Chowdhury in the Directorate of Madrasa Education.
Not only the Principal Abdus Salam, but at least two dozen teachers across the country have been cheated out of several crores of taka. No one got a refund.
As a result, one of the victims filed a case with the Bangshal police station on December 9, 2023 as a plaintiff.
The case was being investigated by the PBI. Based on the information obtained in the investigation and the information provided by the cheated, Zubair alias Md. Asaduzzaman Manik alias Lutfar Rahman (47) was arrested on February 15 from Falgacha village of Sundarganj police station in Gaibandha district.
Based on the information given by him, a team of PBI Dhaka Metro (North) arrested another accomplice Abdul Gaffar alias Suman Chowdhury alias Saiful (77) from Uttara-Paschim Thana area of the capital.
PBI says that they target mainly madrasa teachers in the guise of fake under-secretaries, program officers and sometimes system analysts of the Department of Madrasa Education.
After that, more than TK 4 crore was fraudulently embezzled on the promise of regularization of salaries and allowances of MPO joiners and newly appointed librarians.
Additional DIG Jahangir Alam said this information in a press conference organized at PBI Dhaka Metro (North) office in Agargaon on Sunday.
