In a joint meeting of the Awami League (AL) held at the party’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader advised the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to shift their focus to preparing for the upcoming election rather than planning future movements.

Quader responded to recent statements from BNP leaders expressing their intent to continue protests until achieving victory.

He dismissed these claims, stating that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is “daydreaming” after his release from jail.
The AL general secretary emphasised that if the people’s government is in power, BNP should recognise the challenges of initiating a movement against the government without a clear issue to rally behind.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s presence at the security conference in Germany, Quader praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stating that her participation in the conference brought great honor to the country. He asserted that the democratic world recognises the importance of Bangladesh, emphasising the country’s geopolitical position.

Quader acknowledged the potential challenges faced by Bangladesh, including geopolitical tensions and external interests in the Bay of Bengal and Saint Martin. However, he commended the Sheikh Hasina government for steering balanced diplomacy towards success.

During the meeting, Quader shared instructions from AL President Sheikh Hasina, urging party members to address internal disputes and renew expired committees within the party. He emphasised the importance of resolving organisational issues, including holding overdue conferences for various AL units and affiliated bodies.

Quader concluded by stating that the AL president has directed immediate action to address internal problems and disputes within the party. The focus, he emphasised, should be on preparing for the next election rather than engaging in prolonged protests.
