Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-14) have arrested two smugglers while conducting anti-smuggling drives at Natal square in Bhairab port town on early Thursday.
RAB -14 in Bhairab camp sources, during the operation Rab forces held 2 alleged smugglers with smuggled 10,000 kgs of Indian sugar in Bhairab . At this time, a covered van carrying sugar was seized.
The detainees are Raju Sheikh (38) son of Mobarak Sheikh and Al Amin (25) in Jashore town.
RAB -14 in Bhairab Camp In-Charge Lt. Commander Fahim Faosal confirmed the matter. He said the detainees are suspected smugglers.
During the interrogation, the detainees admitted to selling illegal Indian suger in various places inside the country through smuggling from the border areas. They are members of a smuggling gang.
A case has been registered at Bhairab model police station and the accused is being handed over.
