Shishu Prohor draws crowd

The Shishu Prohor, specially dedicated to children, have begun on the second day of the Ekushey Book Fair-2024 at the Suhrawardy Udyan fairground with a good number of kids.

The Shishu Prohor was inaugurated by Bangla Academy’s Director General Mohammad Nurul Huda on 11am of Friday and continued till 1.00pm.

However, the book fair marked a heavy crowd at the first Friday of the book fair just after one day after the fair inaugurationwith the largest gathering of readers, writers and publishers.

The children, cheering with joy, waddled around the Amar Ekushey book fair along with their guardians wearing colorful dresses. Children were running from one stall to another stall in search of their favourite book.

The Sisimpur, the popular television shows, added an extra dimension for children. The characters of the Sisimpur_Ikri, Hallum, Tuktuki, and Shiku, played with children and pleasured them by singing and dancing.

Expressing excitement, Jannat Ara, a child who came with his mother, said, “I come to the fair with my mother every year to see this Sisimpur. I always watch this programme on television. Today, I am very glad as I saw them face to face. I have bought some books also.”

“Children should be taught words from birth. Bengali children will learn Bengal words after birth, English children will learn English words and Arab children will learn Arabic words. Sisimpur is not a special language of word. It is not a native language but world language,” Nurul Huda said.

Mentioning the Sisimpur as cave of knowledge, the Bangla Academy Director General said, “If you enter this cave, you will find that the whole world’s knowledge will be opened before you. Children love this cave. They want to find out the new things in the cave.”

The book fair opened on 11.00am yesterday and continued till 9.00pm where a number if 31 new book hit to the fair.
