‘Election held with festivity’

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday said the national parliament election was held in a peaceful manner and festive mood.
The state minister told reporters after placing tribute at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara.
He said the global community has expressed their satisfaction after the election as the poll was held in a free, fair and transparent manner. Different countries and the United Nations (UN) have congratulated the government and expressed their pledge to work together with the Bangladesh government, he added. Khalid said there are many projects including Matarbari Deep Sea Port under the Shipping Ministry. “It is our main challenge to complete the projects. We want to excavate 10,000 kilometers waterway as per the directive of the Premier,” he said.
He said his ministry and Water Resources Ministry will work jointly to develop rivers and canals to implement the Delta Plan. Later, the state minister joined a milad and doa mahfil.
In the afternoon, Khalid distributed blankets among the distressed people.
Senior Secretary of the Shipping Ministry Md Mostafa Kamal, Chattogram Port chairman Rear Admiral M Sohael, Payra Port chairman Rear Admiral Golam Sadek, Mongla Port Chairman Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali, Bangladesh Land Port Chairman Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) chairman Commodore Arif Ahmed Mostafa, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation acting chairman M Matiur Rahman among others, were present there.
