Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Thursday said the country badly needs skilled human resources for the development of its industries and tapping high-paid job opportunities in the Middle Eastern countries.
The private sector in the country still lacks the skilled human resources at the management level, while the overseas job seekers from the country are not finding better-paid jobs as they lack the technical skills, said the Industries Minister.
He was addressing an orientation programme organised by Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) on its campus for the students admitted to five Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) courses under session 2014.
The government wants to transform the BIM into a centre of excellence in terms of the capacity to provide skilled human resources at the management level of the industrial sector, both at home and abroad, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah said BIM is going to introduce its Executive MBA (Masters of Business Administration) very soon.
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said skilled human resources are inevitable to keep the industrial sector globally competitive.
BIM director general Khandaker Rakibur Rahman noted that most the industrial sectors still lack adequate skilled human resources inside the country.
Even in the country’s readymade garment (RMG) sector, about 15 percent of the jobs at the management level are occupied by foreigners, he said.
The orientation programme was presided over by BIM director general Khandaker Rakibur Rahman.
