2nd day of BNP-Jamaat’s blockade: 7 vehicles torched across country

Unidentified people set fire on a bus of 'Raida Paribahan' in Shahzadpur area in the capital on Thursday.

At least seven vehicles, including two passenger buses in capital, were torched across the country on Thursday, the second day of the third phase blockade enforced by BNP, and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Unidentified miscreants set a bus of ‘Raida Paribahan’ on fire at Shahjadpurin the capital on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place around 2:28 pm, Talha Jashim, media cell officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate confirmed the matter to the media.

Later on information, two units of firefighters from Baridhara Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze, he said.

Meanwhile, unidentified people set fire to another passenger bus of Asean Paribahan in Matuail area under Jatrabari police station of the capital.

The fire service and civil defense received information about the fire around 6:43 pm on Thursday.

Talha bin Jasim, media cell officer of fire service headquarters, confirmed the matter to the media on Thursday night.

On information, two units of Postgola Fire Station reached the spot and brought the fire under control, he said.

In Noakhali, unidentified people set fire to a rod-laden truck in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on the second day of the third round of blockade called by BNP and Jamaat.

The incident took place in Aminbazar area under Amanullahpur union of the upazila early Thursday morning.

According to locals, miscreants set fire to the Laxmipur-bound truck loaded with rods in that area.

Later, a team from Chaumuhani Fire Service Station reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

However, no casualties were reported in this connection. Confirming the incident, Begumganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Anwarul Islam said police are trying to nab those involved in setting fire to the truck.

In Sirajganj, blockaders have set fire to a truck carrying goods on the second day of the third-round blockade. Several vehicles have also been vandalized during this time.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Setu West Police Station Abdul Quader Jilani confirmed the incident and said police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot after being informed and brought the fire under control.

In Bogura, unidentified miscreants set ablaze two trucks in Nagarkandi and Manikchak Bazar areas of Bogura sadar on Wednesday night.
