JnU student lands in jail for sexually harassing fellow

A Dhaka court sent a student of Jagannath University (JnU) to jail for sexually harassing a female student of the same university during the 18th anniversary celebrations of the university.

Judge Saiful Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court passed the order on Friday, reports media.

The accused is Mehedi Hasan Saikat, a student of the 2019-20 session.

He was produced before the court in a case filed with Kotwali police station in connection with the incident.

According to the case statement, Saikat tried to contact the girl, a student of the 2018-19 batch, on her cell phone and Facebook to talk and build a relationship. However, the girl ignored him.

Following this, on Thursday, Saikat sexually harassed her when she went to the campus to attend the Jagannath University Day.

Later, a written complaint was filed to the proctor of the university in this regard.

On the instructions of the proctor, the Kotwali police station came to Jagannath University and detained the Saikat.

After the arrest, Saikat confessed to his crime during primary interrogation.
