After a prolonged dry period following the end of the rainy season of Bangla months Ashar and Shravan, Monday finally saw a heavy downfall, easing Bhadra’s intense heat.
Since the morning, the skies over the capital, Dhaka, were overcast. By noon, darkness began to set in, initially with light showers which became a heavy downpour as the day progressed.
By the afternoon, reports of rainfall came from numerous parts of Dhaka, including Uttara, Mirpur, Bhashantek, Cantonment area, Gulshan, Mohakhali, Merul Badda, Rampura, Hatirjheel, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Paltan, Motijheel, Mintu Road, Banglamotor, Dhanmondi, Jhigatola, Mohammadpur, and Rayerbazar, covering almost the entirety of the city.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), sporadic rain was reported across various parts of the country as well.
It predicted that intermittent rainfall might continue until Tuesday.
Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said that these scattered showers are expected to continue in various regions until Tuesday which will help in reducing the heatwave affecting several areas.
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay, the BMD said.
Earlier in the morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in eight divisions, including Dhaka.
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions; at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said a regular BMD bulletin on Monday.
Day and night temperatures may fall slightly over the country.
A mild heatwave has been sweeping Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajgonj, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Jessore, Chuadanga, Barisal, Patuakhali and Bhola districts and it may abate in some places, said the bulletin.
