We have such a big void in political leadership that we cannot be hopeful about a political solution through discussions among themselves.
But this time the USA and the Western countries have not given any advice to be followed by Bangladesh government but relying on the assurance of the prime minister that the next election will be fair.
They only explained the obvious. They reminded that the free election has to be free of violence.
The US government also announced that anybody obstructing free election his/her US visa will be cancelled.
The government cannot now be sure that the government officials will help election rigging and risk visa sanction of the US government.
The US government is not interfering with any internal matter in Bangladesh.
It is helping the government of Bangladesh to implement its policy of free and fair election.
The democratic Constitution known as 1972 Constitution had to go through many ups and downs.
But at long last it was revived.
This time, instead of scrapping the democratic Constitution the government used terror tactics like secret killing and forced disappearance to make the Constitution non-functional.
The Constitution has ceased to be the supreme law.
This kind of life threatening politics could not have been our politics.
So the blueprint of secret killing and forced disappearance had to come from some outside source.
Awami League has developed such a full proof election robbery system that without facing the election the government could declare big election victory for the government.
To make sure that the government officials do as they are told the government changed the Constitution to continue in power during the election time.
The government has no need to seek vote from the people.
The government is of the bureaucrats and for the bureaucrats.
The Constitutional provision with regard to the election has been amended to delete the requirement of election time non-party caretaker government.
Instead the sitting government will continue during the election.
The government has assured the United States and the Western countries that the forthcoming election will be free and fair.
The US and others have welcomed this assurance from the prime minister.
But when the prime minister was told that free election has to be free of violence then the government started rethinking.
Because of visa sanction policy of the US our government officials cannot be relied upon for the success of the insider work of election robbery.
The government’s dependence on India for its survival is no secret.
The foreign minister Abdul Momen described the closeness of Bangladesh’s relations with India is that of husband and wife.
He claimed proudly that he told India to allow this government another term.
The foreign minister does not know the distinction between the parliamentary system of democracy and the presidential form of democracy.
He asked the two visiting Congressmen from America your president does not resign for the election then how come you are asking our government to resign for the election?
Another minister told his party men not to worry about the pressure coming from the US government.
This government has also roots deep and widespread.
He also asked the foreign delegates coming to Bangladesh to find a way to resolve crisis over free and fair election why they come when they are not invited.
Unless the government is sure that its vote rigging mechanism is safe the government will not be eager to take part in the election.
The government has no courage to face the people in a free and fair election as assured by the prime minister.
