Court Correspondent :
Savar Model Police Station of Dhaka sought a seven-day remand for Jubo Mohila League leader Mehnaz Tabassum Mishu in a case filed over stripping a 15-year-old schoolgirl and throwing her off a five-storied building rooftop in Savar.

The remand application was submitted in a Dhaka court last noon, Abdur Rashid, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar Model Police Station, told the media.

Mishu 35, Joint General Secretary of Dhaka north unit of Jubo Mohila League, was arrested from her Savar home on Saturday after the victim’s mother filed a complaint with Savar Model Police Station against Mishu, her husband Atikur Rahman Atik and six/seven unnamed people.

The complaint was recorded as a case last night and later Mishu was shown arrested in the case. Attempts are on to nab the other accused, Inspector Rashid said.

Meanwhile, the central committee of Bangladesh Jubo Mohila League suspended Mishu from the party following the incident saying that she was involved in activities against party order.

According to the case statement, Mishu brought the girl from her poor mother and kept her at her house, promising that she would bear the living and educational costs of the girl.

On July 25, Mehnaz Mishu and the other accused tried to force the student into immoral activities after they forcefully stripped her and took her photographs.

When the girl refused to do as they demanded, they fed her drugs and threw her off the rooftop of their five-storied building.

The girl was critically injured and hospitalized for weeks before she returned home recently. Soon after her return, her mother filed the complaint, based on which police arrested Mehnaz Mishu.

“A case was filed against Mehnaz Mishu and others under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and for attempted murder,” said Savar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Dipok Chandra Saha on Saturday.
