‘Operation Hillside’ in Moulvibazar: 10 operatives of newly formed militant group detained, CTTC says

A smart team of Counter-Terrorism and Trans-National Crime has conducted a militant operation in the border area of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar. They were accompanied by a raiding team of Swat and District and Thana Police.
Militants are in two houses in East Tattiuli village in the hilly area of Karmadha union of the upazila since 8 pm on Friday. Based on the secret information, the local law enforcement forces surrounded the house. Operation Hillside early Saturday morning
An offensive team of Counter-Terrorism and Trans-National Crime was added to that operation. They were accompanied by a bomb disposal unit. Additional Commissioner Asaduzzaman, Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Haque, Joint Commissioner Kamruzzaman, SWAT Commander Zahidul Islam were in the operation. DSB Mohsin, Additional Superintendent of Police Kulaura Circle Dipankar Ghosh, Kulaura Police Station OC Md. Abdus Salek along with various police units joined the operation in the morning by a team of 20/22 SWAT.
In about 4 and a half hours operation, 10 militants including men and women and three children who were with them were arrested in those two houses. Meanwhile, 3 kg explosives, 50 high exclusive detonators, 3 lakh 61 thousand taka and militant training overall and a large amount of jihadi were recovered.

Head of CTTC Md. Asaduzzaman said that they arrested a militant in Dhaka recently. They are said to have formed a militant outfit called Imam Mahmud’s Caravan and have set up a hideout in Tattiuli hilly area east of Kulaura. He said that the operation was conducted here based on that news.
Moulvibazar Police Superintendent Md Manjur Rahman PPM bar said that the arrested persons were rescued from Astana and taken to Dhaka because of the case. Muhibul Islam Azad, Chairman of Karmadha Union Parishad of Kulaura, said that they started settling in the hilly area called Baishali Bari of East Tattiuli village of his union. Not sure how it got here. Since the settlement was not very long, there was no news.
