Singer Mehreen honoured with ‘Atmajan Smriti’ award

Popular Bangladeshi pop singer Mehreen Mahmud was honoured with the prestigious ‘Atmajan Smriti’ award at the 104th anniversary
celebration of the historic East Bengal Club. The esteemed event took place on August 1, also observed as the
East Bengal Day, said a press release.
West Bengal’s Sports Minister, Arup Biswas, and Kolkata’s Mayor and Municipalities Minister, Firhad Hakim, presented the award to the renowned singer.
The East Bengal Club, marking its 104th founding anniversary, organised the grand ceremony at the Khudiram Practice Centre in India. The event was graced as the chief guest by the presence of Swami Subiranandaji Maharaj, the General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission.
Among the distinguished awardees were Ratan Tata, Chairman
Emeritus of Tata Sons, who was bestowed with the ‘Bharat Gaurav’ honor, and former goalkeeper
Tarun Bose, who received the ‘Byomkesh Bose Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award’. Former cricketer Arup Bhattacharya was honoured with the ‘Dr Ramesh Chandra Sen Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award’. Additionally, esteemed
journalists Pradeep Roy and
Arun Sengupta were recognised with the ‘Ajay Bose Memorial Journalist Award’ and the ‘Pushpen Sarkar Memorial Journalist
Award’, respectively.
The event also recognised the
unwavering support of dedicated fans, with Sagnik Banerjee and Pradeep Das receiving the ‘Swapan Ball Memorial Supporters Award’.
In a heartfelt tribute, the late Monem Munna, a former footballer, was posthumously honoured with
the ‘Atmajan Smriti’ award. His wife Yasmin Monem and son Azman Salid, along with former Bangladeshi
football players Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Rumi Rizvi Karim and Mohammad Gholam Ghaus,
accepted the award on his behalf.
Furthermore, the event celebrated the musical brilliance of Bangladesh by honoring Mehreen Mahmud, a prominent music artiste, with the ‘Atmajan Smriti’ award, along with Harunur Rashid, the former editor of Bangladesh Abahani Krira Chakra.
