Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Bulbul Mahalanobish dies

Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra’s artiste and
eminent singer Bulbul Mahalanobish
breathed her last on Friday. She passed away earlier in the morning at her residence
in the capital’s Gulshan area. She was 70.
Her death was confirmed by her niece,
theatre artiste and actress, Jayita Mahalanobish. The singer is survived
by her son, who is currently in the USA. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed
grief at the death of the noted artiste.
Bulbul Mahalanobish was suffering from old age complications. As her son lives in the USA, no decision has been made about her last rites. Her relatives
will inform her son and decide on how to proceed.
The artiste took part in the song ‘Bijoy Nishan Urchhe Oi’ on December 16, 1971, which was broadcast on Betar to mark the historic moment of Bangladesh’s
victory. She dedicated her whole life to music. Besides releasing a couple of albums in her career, she also authored 12 books. The artiste was also a presenter on television, radio and the stage. She was born in Bikrampur, Munshiganj on March 10, 1953. She
graduated from the University of Dhaka where she also served as a teacher for a long time. The singer
had also demonstrated her ability in organisational positions as well. She was the Vice President at Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad and the General Secretary at Rabindra Academy. She also played important roles in different associations such as Udichi and more.
