Moyna birds found in Eastern Sundarbans
Bagerhat Correspondent :
Believe it or not a pair of talking birds, locally known as “Moyna” of the hilly regions was found in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district) recently for the first time. Two Moyna birds were seen to take flight in Charkhali area under Sharankhala Forest Range, according to a report received here. As a result, curiosity was created among the people of the localities.
Forester Dilip Majumdar, Officer-in-charge of Charkhali patrol outpost under Sharankhola Forest Range told some newsmen of Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday morning over mobile phone, 2 Moyna birds of hilly regions have been taking flight in Charkhali area of Sundarbans for the last 10/12 days. It is seen that they are taking fruits of banyan trees. The forester told, previously that Moyna birds were never seen in Sundarbans. According to him, in Bangladesh talking birds Moynas are generally living in the hill-tract districts of Chottogram Division. At the night they live in the holes of trees. So, it is not understandable to me why and how did this pair of Moyna birds to the Sundarbans.
Adnan Azad, a bird specialized told, talking birds like Moynas are generally living in the holes of big trees of the hilly regions which are far above from the sea level. So, Sundarbans are not at all the place of their habitation. According to him, these two Moyna birds were, perhaps, confined in a cage belonging to someone and, somehow, they (Moynas) managed to escape the cage and took shelter in Sundarbans.
