Chattogram Bureau :
Unexpected explosions and fires are constantly increasing all over the country including Chittagong. Many people are losing their lives due to fire. Hundreds of crores of rupees of wealth are being destroyed in the fire. Most of the people are unaware of this horror of fire. We all need to be aware from now on.
Measures should be taken to prevent fire accidents. Adequate emergency exits, fire extinguishers should be kept in every building to reduce fire accidents and avoid damage. Ensure strict enforcement of existing laws on fire safety and punish violators. Employees should be trained in various industries. Schools should include fire safety education. Besides, in case of construction of multi-storied buildings, there should be modern fire engine, water hydrant and improved communication system along with development of existing structure. Water is one of the accessories of fire extinguishing. Appropriate measures should be taken to protect the ponds or reservoirs which are one of the sources of this water.
Above all, coordination with various government institutions should be increased to prevent fire accidents. The speakers said these things in the dialogue entitled ‘Chittagong fire, explosion prevention factor’ at Yusuf Chowdhury conference hall of Purbokone Center on Monday. The dialogue was organized by Chittagong Urban Network and Dainik Purbokone in collaboration with Save the Children and Ipsa.
City Corporation Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, “As an important city, there is no progress in the way we are moving forward in terms of security. We don’t have any specific plans for security.”
