Two solar power plants have given new good news amid the ongoing power
crisis in the country.
The government is going to build these two solar power plants with the aim of producing renewable electricity.
The electricity generated from the two centers will be directly connected to the national grid.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will set up a 50MW solar power plant in Rangunia upazila and a 7.6MW solar power plant in the Karnaphuli hydropower plant area of Kaptai upazila in Rangamati.
In the board meeting held in the second week of February this year, BPDB decided to set up a 50MW solar power plant in Rangunia Upazila.
Those concerned are expecting that the work of setting up the power plant will start in next June.
On the other hand, the board meeting of PDB on November 28 approved the proposal for construction of solar power plant in Karnaphuli water power plant area of Kaptai upazila of Rangamati.
Then on December 28 to 30, a team of the Planning Commission visited the site for the existing solar power plant and the proposed power plant.
Ahmed Zaheer Khan, Director (Superintending Engineer) of BPDB’s Renewable Energy and Research and Development Department, said that tenders have been invited before the preparation of the Detailed Project Plan (DPP), so that the power plant can be completed quickly.
