BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, and party chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain were freed from Kashimpur Jail here on Tuesday, after detention of three months, and one month respectively.
Jail sources said Rafiqul Islam Miah and Khandker Mahbub Hossain walked out of the jail unit-2 around 11:05 am.
Barrister Moudud came out of the jail unit-1 around 12:40 pm, Jailer Abdul Quddus said.
All the three party leaders were garlanded by the local BNP leaders and activists, including Kaliakoir Municipality mayor Mujibur Rahman.
The High Court on Sunday (February 2) granted bail for three months to three top BNP leaders, including Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, in a criminal case filed with Motijheel Police Station.
The same court on Monday (February 3) granted bail to Moudud Ahmed and Khandker Mahbub Hossain, also vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, in separate cases.
On November 8 last year, plainclothes police arrested Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah along with another BNP leader from the city’s Karwanbazar area while Khandker Mahbub was arrested on January 7 as he came out of the Jatiya Press Club.
