‘Pahela Baishakh’ celebrated in districts

On the occasion of Bangla 1430 New Year in Rangpur, District Administration organized various programs throughout the day including ‘Mongol Shovajatra’ and folk fair.
People from all walks of life celebrated ‘Pahela Baishakh’, the first day of Bengali New Year-1430, Friday with colorful programs turning Rangpur city into a place of festivity, fanfare and jubilation.
The city wore a multi color look while welcoming ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with traditional celebrations, festivities, different competitions for children and distribution of prizes highlighting rich Bengali culture and heritage amid tight security measures.
The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, ‘Sommilito Sangskritik Jote’, dozens of sociocultural, literary and other organizations and educational institutions welcomed ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with colorful programs.
The celebrations began with bringing out of a huge colorful ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’ by the District Administration from Town Hall premises to Zila School ground carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing folk songs to welcome the Bengali New Year 1430.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Abu Jafar greeted the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion while welcoming ‘Pahela Baishakh’ at Banyan Tree premises on Zila School ground as the chief guest.
Presided over Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Additional Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range AFM Anjuman Kalam, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Awami League leaders Shamim Talukder, Shah Md. Nabi Ullah Panna and Jasem Bin Hossain Jummon attended the occasion.
Later, the Additional Divisional Commissioner ceremonially inaugurated a two-day ‘Lokoz Mela’ (Folk Fair) at the Public Library ground in the city with the Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Naz in the chair.
The Rangpur District unit of ‘Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote’ led by its President Biplob Prasad and General Secretary Majidur Rahman Jhantu brought out a huge ‘Mongal Shobhayatra’ from the Public Library to the Press Club premises to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’.
Children and artists rendered traditional ‘Baishakhi’ programs organised by the District Shilpokola Academy at Banyan Tree Baishakhi premises on the Zila School ground and ‘Sommilito Sangskriti Jote’ at the Town Hall premises.
Officials of different government departments and organisations, NGOs, leaders of Awami League, its associate bodies, different socio-cultural, literary and other organizations attended the functions.
Tens of hundreds of jubilant people of all ages wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing `Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho’—– participated in the ‘Mongal Shobhayatra’ to welcome the fortunate day.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 and other law enforcement agencies ensured leak-proof security during celebrations of ‘Baishakhi’ programs peacefully in the city.
BSS from Khulna says: ‘Pahela Baishakh,’ the first day of the Bangla year, was celebrated in Khulna city with much enthusiasm, fanfare and festivity.
Khulna District Administration, different socio-cultural and political organisations celebrated the day through various programmes. Khulna District Administration began the day with a colourful’ Mongol Shovajatra’ (procession) that started from Khulna Railway Station and ended at the Shilpokola Academy premises.
Hundreds of people led by KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque joined the procession on Friday. Khulna Deputy Commissioner Khondokar Yasir Arefin, superintendent of police Md Mahbub Hasan, Additional deputy commissioner(General) Pulak Kumar Mondal, Additional deputy commissioner (Education and ICT) Mukul Kumar Maitra, Chairman of National Women Association Runu Iqbal Bither, freedom fighters, government officials, teachers and leaders of different cultural organisations attended the ‘Mongol Shovajatra.’
Netrakona Correspondent reports : ‘Pohela Baishakh’, the first day of the Bengali New Year-1430, was celebrated here today amidst traditional festivities.
On the occasion, a festive mood generated among the local people irrespective of castes, creeds and religions to welcome the first day of the Bengali new year.
Local administration, different socio-cultural organizations, professional groups, business organizations and educational institutions took different programs to welcome the ‘Pohela Baishakh’ with pomp and gaiety.
The day’s program began with a colorful ‘Baishakhi’ procession (Mongal Shubajatra) which was brought out in the district town in the morning from local Muktarpara ground under the auspices of the district administration.
Deputy commissioner Anjana Khan Mojlish led the procession which ended at old collectorate office building premises after parading main roads of the town.
Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP, chairman of Netrakona zila parishad Asit Sarker Sazal, police super Foyaz Ahmed and mayor of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, district-level officers, political leaders, public representatives , civil society members, students and teachers and a large number local people from all walks of life joined the procession.
The district administration and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Netrakona organized a day-long handy-crafts and cottage industries fair on old collectorate office building premises.
Netrakona Shishu academy organized an art and cultural competition for school children at the Shishu academy.
Netrakona District Administration and district Shilpakala academy jointly organized a colorful musical soiree based on folk and Baishakhi songs on old collectorate office building premises.
Improved traditional Bangalee food-items were served to the inmates of the hospitals, jails and orphanage children family centers in the district by the concerned authorities.
Netrakona district and police administration took tight security measures to avert any untoward incident during celebration of the ‘Pohela Baishakh.
Chattogram Bureau reports: Pahela Boishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1430, was celebrated in the port city and its adjacent upazilas of the district Friday in a befitting manner with great enthusiasm and festivity.
Thousands of people of all ages, wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing “Esho Hey Boishakh Esho Esho” participated in the main ‘Baishakhi’ rally to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’.
The speakers put emphasis on reviving the past glories of the non-communal rich Bengali culture to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation and disseminate true national history to the young generations.
The main programme of Pahela Boishakh began from 6.30AM and continued till 12 PM at Muktamanch of the historic DC hill and CRB Shirishtala from 8 am to 12 pm where artistes of Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad performed the songs including -“Esho hey Boishakh Esho Esho,”.

Children, youths, men, women and activists of the socio-cultural, voluntary and professional organisations wearing traditional dresses came out on the streets after sunrise to welcome the Bengali New Year.
Besides, hundreds of men, women and children, in traditional colourful clothes, thronged Rajshahi College playground, Fudkipara open stage, Shishu Academy, Riverview Collect-orate School playground and other venues especially the bank of the river Padma for celebrations of the occasion.
The programmes of the day heralded the city by inaugurating a colourful “Mongol Shobhajatra” on Shilpakala Academy premises. Rajshahi District Administration arranged the rally.
After parading some of the city streets, the rally ended at the same venue where a discussion and cultural function programme were formally opened.
Gouripu (Mymensingh) Correspondent reports: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year -1430 was celebrated amid traditional festivities and enthusiasm in Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh district and its adjacent areas like other parts of the country on Friday.
Children, youths, men, women and activists of the socio-cultural, voluntary and professional organisations wearing traditional dresses came out on the streets after sunrise to welcome the Bengali New Year.
Gourpur Upazila Administration organised a celebrations to welcome the Bengali New Year. It began through a procession in the morning followed by a drawing contest for children and cultural function, People from all walks of life, cultural and professional organisations, institutions clubs and schools joined the rally carrying festoons, placards, posters, banners, and wearing masks to welcome the Bangla New Year,1430 . Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP, inaugurated the Mangal Shovajatra while Upazila Chairman Mofazzal Hossain khan, Fouzia Naznin ,UNO of Gouripur Upazila , were, among others, present. After parading some of the streets in the town, the rally ended at the Upazila Parishad premises where cultural function was held formally.
Lalpur (Natore) Correspondent says: Bengali New Year Pahela Baisakh was celebrated in Natore’s Lalpur with various events.
Upazila Administration organized the Mangal procession on this occasion,on Friday (April 14) morning. Later cultural programmes were organized.
Member of Parliament of Natore-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara) Shahidul Islam Bakul, Upazila Chairman Isahak Ali, UNO Shamima Sultana, Gopalpur Municipal Mayor Roksana Mortaza Lily and others were present in the event.
Shahidul Islam Bakul and his wife Saira Chaya, UNO Shamima Sultana along with artists from Upazila Shilpakala Academy performed music in the cultural programme.
