Lintott powers Mohammedan to earn narrow win over Brothers in DPL

A five-wicket haul by Jake Lintott powered Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited to earn a narrow 10-run win over Brothers Union in the cricket match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Tuesday.
Jake Lintott, the English left-arm spinner bowled extremely well and finished his superb spell as 10-1-37-5. Lintott also shone with the willow scoring 28. He hit one six in his 52-ball knock. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning performance.
Sent into bat first, Mohammedan Sporting Club made a fighting total of 190 in 45.4 overs and then all out Brothers Union for 180 off 47.1 overs.
Mohammedan lost their four wickets for 59 runs.
Third-down Shakib Al Hasan and fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad built a notable partnership. They scored together 53 runs in the fifth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Zahiduzzaman off Anisul Islam when Mohammedan’s total was 112 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan hit a polished 37. His 45-ball innings had three fours.
Mahmudullah and Jake Lintott added together 37 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Mahmudullah was dismissed by Rahatul Ferdous when Mohammedan’s score was 177 for the loss of eight wickets.
Mahmudullah notched up a fine 58. His 68-ball knock was ornamented with two fours and a sixer.
Later, Jake Lintott was dismissed by Rahatul Ferdous when Mohammedan’s innings was concluded.
Anisul Islam Emon and Mohor Sheikh of Brothers Union grabbed three wickets each instead of 15 and 35 runs respectively.
Rahatul Ferdous bagged two wickets at the cost of 48 runs.
Besides, Sabbir Hossain took one wicket giving 13 runs.
Brothers Union had a shaky start as they lost their early two wickets for 34 runs.
Opener Anisul Islam Emon and second-down Zahiduzzaman salvaged their team from early debacle putting on together 71 runs in the third-wicket stand before Anisul Islam was dismissed by Jake Lintott when Brothers Union’s score was 105 for the loss of three wickets.
Anisul Islam knocked a sparkle 40. His 47-ball innings was laced with three sixes and a four.
After Anisul’s departure, Zahiduzzaman could stay at the crease for a short period as he was bowled out by Lintott when Brothers Union’s total was 106 for the loss of four wickets.
Zahiduzzaman hit a respectable 41. His 45-ball innings was laced with three sixes and two fours.
Later, Minhajul Abedin fought back making 36. His 69-ball innings had two fours.
Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets in the space of 30 runs, while Shuvagata Hom, Nazmul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 29, 31 and 36 runs respectively.
Meanwhile, Gazi Group Cricketers defeated City Club by five wickets in the day’s other cricket match of the Dhaka Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur.
Chasing City Club’s total of 214 in 50 overs, Gazi Group Cricketers sailed home making 215 for the loss of five wickets when they had 18 balls to spare.
Opener Mehedi Maruf of Gazi Group Cricketers top-scored with 66 runs, while his teammate Akbar Ali played a captain’s knock of 50. One-down Farhad Hossain scored 48 runs.
Asif Ahmed of City Club shone with the willow scoring 60 runs.
Sumon Khan of Gazi Group Cricketers captured four wickets in the space of 50 runs.
