Most of the markets in the capital are dangerous from the point of view of the fire service. The Gausia Market, one of the most popular shopping destinations in the capital, has been declared risky to fire incidents, said Fire Service and Civil Defence’s Dhaka Zone Chief and Assistant Deputy Director Bazlur Rashid.
Representatives of Fire Service and Civil Defence, NSI and DGFI informed this after visiting the market on Thursday.
During the visit, fire service official Bazlur Rashid led the team and held a meeting with leaders of traders of the market.
Narrating the fact Bazlur Rashid told the media, “There are many markets in Dhaka city that are risky. There is a market in Thantari Bazar,
Rajdhani Super Market, New Market, Chawkbazar Market and many other markets. These markets could not fulfill the demand of fire service. Most of the markets in Dhaka are dangerous in our eyes. We would request that these markets become self-sustaining.”
“There is a fire extinguisher in Gausia Market. But there is not adequate management and equipment required for rescue operation after an accident”, said Bazlur Rashid.
At that time, in response to the questions of the journalists, Kamrul Hasan Babu, president of the Gauchia Market Owners Association, said, “We have fulfilled the instructions given by the fire service two years ago. We have also fire certificate. In fact, all buildings may have some defects”. “We will try to solve the defects including the outdoors within one or two days” said, Kamrul Hasan.
