Chattogram Bureau :
About 20 kilometres of heavy traffic has been created on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway during the Mahashtami bathing festival of Hindu religious devotees. This traffic jam
can be seen on the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway from Narayanganj Shimrail Mor to Meghna Toll Plaza.
The police said that the traffic jam was created due to the crowd of millions of people around the Brahmaputra river bank journey in the Langalband area of the port. Meanwhile, people going to work have suffered due to traffic jam. Such a scene can be seen on the ground at various points on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Wednesday morning.
It is known that the traffic jam has been caused due to pilgrims crossing the road at some points including Madanpur on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Due to the arrival of lakhs of pilgrims, the traffic pressure on the highway has increased several times since early this morning, an eye witness said.
