Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy celebrates World Puppetry Day

Marking World Puppetry Day, which was observed on March 21, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) organised
a daylong festival titled ‘Jatiyo Putul Natya Utsab’ on the
Academy premises on Tuesday, said a press release.
The daylong festival
featured discussion,
puppetry shows, and awarded renowned
puppeteers of Bangladesh. The festival began at 11:00am with the puppet show at the school level. Later, a puppet workshop led by Saiful Islam was held on the lobby
of BSA at 3:00pm. Later, Jolputul Puppets theatre and Kaktarua Puppet Theatre staged puppet dances at 4:30pm
at the stair of the National Theatre Hall of BSA.
The main programme of the festival was held followed by an award ceremony in the evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA, where State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid was
present as the chief guest.
Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Cultural Affairs Sectary Abul Monsur was present
as a special guest.
Then Kajoli, Bhanu Chandra Barman, Kiriti Ranjan Biswas, and Professor Dr Rashid Harun were honoured at the event. After the award
ceremony, Multimedia Puppet Theatre and Bangladesh Putul Natya Unnayan and Gobeshona Kendra presented ‘Putul Nach.’
On the other hand, Puppet Theatre presented the ‘Putul’ dance at Mohammadpur Provati Ideal School on
March 22 at 11:00am.
