Ruby Ghuznavi remembered at Bengal Shilpalaya

In memory of the late Ruby Ghuznavi, a
discussion programme along with an exhibition was organised at Bengal Shilpalay recently. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Parveen Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of Central Women’s University. The President of National Crafts Council of Bangladesh, Chandra Shekhar and Managing Director of Aranya Crafts, Nawshin Khair delivered their speeches on the occasion, said a press release.
The National Crafts Council of Bangladesh, Aranya Crafts and Bengal Foundation jointly organised this programme to pay tribute to the ever-beautiful Ruby Ghuznavi by showcasing natural-coloured fabrics, blocks, paintings, books, artworks, installations and various other media.
It is noted that on January 14, Ruby Ghuznavi died. She was the pioneer behind the revival of natural dyes and crafts movement in Bangladesh. She also initiated the natural dyes project in 1982 and
established Aranya Crafts in 1990. Along with Patua Quamrul Hassan and a few others, she established the National Crafts Council of Bangladesh (NCCB) to uphold traditional crafts.
Ruby Ghuznavi played an important role in
earning recognition for Jamdani as a GI product
of Bangladesh. She was a trustee of Bengal Foundation, as well as
a Founder Trustee of Transparency International Bangladesh, and Naripokhho, a women’s rights organisation.
