Bangladesh Potho Natya Utsab begins

With the slogan titled ‘Sompritir Sangskriti Anbei Mukti,’ the
weeklong ‘Bangladesh Potho Natya Utsab’ (Bangladesh Street Theatre Festival) started on Wednesday
on the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
The inaugural ceremony of the
festival followed by award
ceremony was held. A number of 38 theatre personalities were
honoured at the event.
Noted thespian Mamunur Rashid inaugurated the festival, while Sammilito Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus was present as the chief guest. Presided over by President of Street Theatre Council Mizanur Rahman, General Secretary Ahmed Gias delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
After the inauguration, three street dramas were staged at the festival.
According to the organisers, this year, a total of 35 plays by the theatre troupes of inside and outside Dhaka are to be staged during the weeklong ‘Bangladesh Potho Natya Utsab.’ Every day the plays are scheduled
to be staged at 4:30pm on the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar. As a part of the theatre
movement of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, the festival has been taking place since 1986.
