LNG can be imported at private level, says KGDCL Chief

The Managing Director of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) Rafiqul Islam mentioned Bashundhara as the country’s largest industrial group and said that natural gas is the main driving force in industrial plants. “We will supply that natural gas here. This will result in industrialisation here, creating a lot of employment. As the foreign currency will be earned by exporting the manufactured products abroad, the foreign currency will be saved if the products which had to be imported from abroad until now are produced locally,” he said.
Pointing out that LNG can be imported at the private level as well, he said that the policy for importing LNG at the private level has been prepared. “You can see on the website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. We have received applications from Bashundhara Group and Omera that they want to import LNG. A committee was formed in this regard. This policy is drafted by me. That policy still exists. You can import LNG if you want,” he also said. He added that these things at the inauguration ceremony of the 110 million cubic feet capacity DRS and transmission line at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, funded by Bashundhara Industrial Economic Zone Limited (BIEZL) on Monday.
