Chattogram Bureau :

Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital and Chattogram General Hospital have high capacity magnetising resonance imaging or MRI machines to serve the patients of Greater Chattogram. But two hospital machines have been lying idle for years.
Out of this, services have been closed for four years at General Hospital and for one year at CMC Hospital.
The concerned hospital authorities said that letters have been circulated several times for the operation of the two machines, but there has been no solution so far. The patients are being deprived of the services due to the lack of official decision even though the cost details of crores of taka have been given by the supplier.
Besides, other parts of the machine are also going to get damaged due to being idle for a long time, the concerned said. In this, hospital patients have to spend extra money to be tested by private hospitals.
It is known that on October 25, 2017, the service operation of CMC Hospital’s new MRI machine officially started. A company named Meditel Private Limited of Dhaka supplied the advanced machine of Japanese ‘Hitachi 1.5 Tesla’ worth about Tk10 crore. The machine had a three-year warranty as per the purchase agreement.
