Tight security measure beefed up at Shaheed Minar area

Tight security measures have been taken to avoid any untoward situation at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital celebrating the International Mother Language Day smoothly on February 21.
 Besides, a route map was drawn up for the people who will come to visit and pay tribute to the martyrs of the language movement at Central Shaheed Minar and Azimpur Graveyard on February 21. The route map will be effective from the night of February 20.
 DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman told the overall progress of the Shaheed Minar and also published the route map at a press conference on Monday.
 “We will implement tight security measures at the Shaheed Minar. There is not any threat of
terrorist attack centering the celebration of 21 February at the Central Shaheed Minar,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq said.
The DMP commissioner also said at a press briefing after visiting the Shaheed Minar and its adjacent areas that the President and Prime Minister will come to Shaheed Minar in an open environment following the Covid pandemic.
“We have finished our heightened security preparation keeping in mind the president and PM protocol and have installed CCTV cameras and watchtowers to keep this area under police surveillance,” he added.
According to the route map, people will enter Azimpur graveyard through the Doyel Crossing, Bangla Academy, TSC Crossing, road beside the Arts building via New Market crossing and the north gate of the graveyard.
After offering prayer at the graves of the martyrs, they will have to come out through the main Gate of the graveyard and go through Azimpur Road, Palashi crossing, and the road in front of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Jagannath Hall.
People will also use the road on the left of Nilkhet police outpost to the west of Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall Palashi crossings and they reach Shaheed Minar through the road of Home Economics College and Eden College via Azimpur and Palashi crossings.
People who come from Chankharpul area can go to Shaheed Minar through Bakshibazar crossing, Palashi crossing and the road in front of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Jagannath Hall.
After placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar people would exit the place through the roads in front of the university playground, Doyel Chattar and Chankharpul via in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
 Moreover, the road on the east of Jagannath Hall from TSC and the road from VC Chattor to Fuller Road crossing will remained closed.
“Those who come to pay homage to the Language Movement martyrs, they must follow the route map and no one will be allowed to enter the area without proper checking”, DMP Commissioner added.
“All the VVIPs and VIPs will pay tribute at the first watch of 21 February. Later the commoners will be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar premises through Palashghi squad,” he added.
