Manna’s 15th death anniversary observed

Actor Manna was remembered on his
15th death anniversary yesterday (February 17). Every year the actor’s wife, Shelly Manna arranges programmes
to honour the late actor, this year was no different. She informed the media that on his death anniversary, Manna Foundation arranged
a Milad Mahfil.
Apart from that, programmes remembering the late actor were also arranged in Tangail Press club along with Chattogram Press Club by Manna Foundation Chattogram.
Marking the day in a befitting manner, cultural organisations held elaborate programmes. Besides, satellite television channels and radio stations aired programmes paying tribute to the late actor.
On this day in 2008, Bangladesh lost one of his film giants – Manna. S M Aslam Talukder Manna was born in 1964 in Tangail on April 14. Manna acted in over 300 movies. Most of them have done profitable business in an era when the Dhaka-based movie industry faced a drought. He achieved National Film Award as the Best Actor in 2006. Manna’s career was initiated in 1984, after he was discovered through a talent search programme by the Film Development Corporation. Manna also emerged as a film producer. As a producer, he casted once popular actors who left the movie industry as a protest against vulgarity. On an average, Manna acted in 10 movies each year. Manna’s notable commercially successful movies include ‘Danga’, ‘Traash’, ‘Chadabaaz’, ‘Amma Jaan’, ‘Sajghor’, ‘Khomotar Gorom’, ‘Moner Sathey Juddho’, ‘Machine-man’, ‘Ulta-Palta 69’ and ‘Shotru Shotru Khela.’
Manna was the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artsites’ Association. As the General Secretary, he was active in the ongoing movement against vulgarity in the Dallywood film industry. As an action hero, Manna acted collaboration with action director Kazi Hayat acted 20 movies and Montazur Rahman Akbar’s
22 movies.
Manna died on February 17, 2008 following a heart attack.
