Sharmila Tagore returns to film after 13 years
The film ‘Gulmohar’ marks the comeback film of veteran Indian actor Sharmila Tagore. The actress is making her
comeback to films after 13 years with
this film. The Disney+ Hotstar production also marks the feature debut of
Rahul V Chittella.
The film features Sharmila Tagore as the matriarch Kusum Batra, who decides to sell the family home in Gulmohar and relocate to Pondicherry, reports the Hindustan Times. According to Variety, ‘Gulmohar’ follows the final four days of the Batra family living in their 34-year-old family home as they move to a new city.
The film, co-written by Arpita Mukherjee and Chittella, was born out of the latter’s experiences of having lived and worked in Nair’s house in Delhi, which was subsequently sold.
The cast also includes Simran as Arun’s wife along with other cast members Amol Palekar, Kaveri Seth and Utsavi Jha.
Chittella, who is making his directorial debut with Gulmohar, said in a statement, “Times are changing, people’s outlook towards the world and especially towards their families is also constantly changing and evolving. My co-writer, Arpita Mukherjee, and I were keen to explore this reality in a narrative format. The movie is for audiences of all ages to experience love and togetherness with our Batra family. Sharmila ji, Manoj Bajpayee, Simran, Suraj Sharma, Kaveri Seth, Utsavi Jha looked and felt like a real family. Gulmohar is created with a lot of love and hoping the audiences embrace it with the same love on Disney+ Hotstar.” -Agencies
