Chattogram Bureau :
Chattogram Customs Agents Association has started a two-day long strike at Chattogram Customs House, the country’s largest revenue generating institution. As a result of the filing of the bill of entry, customs duty is practically stopped. C&F agents are gathering at the gates of the Customs House. Association’s General Secretary Kazi Mahmud Imam (Bilu) said, “We are observing strike from Monday (January 30) morning.”
The Federation of Bangladesh Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association has decided to strike simultaneously in the customs houses and customs stations across the country to demand the amendment of some regulations against the fundamental rights of C&F agents in the Customs Agent Licensing Rules, the cancellation of the various controversial orders made to determine the HS Code and CPC of the goods during customs clearance. We have been agitating on these demands for a long time.As expected action of National Board of Revenue (NBR) is not visible in meeting the demands; it has been decided to observe a two-day full-day strike.
He said that the federation will give a new program in the future if the demand for amendment of some regulations of the licensing rules, cancellation of fines and punitive measures due to HS Code and CPC mistakes is not met.
