Closing ceremony of 19th Asian Art Biennale held, BSA extends the festival for one week

Responding to the demand
of passionate art lovers, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has extended the 19th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2022 for one week.
The biennale will now welcome its visitors till January 13. The closing ceremony of the exhibition was held at the National Theatre Hall of BSA on Saturday.
Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, the closing ceremony was joined by the Speaker of the National Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury as the chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid, Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Abul Monsur, and eminent artists Shahabuddin Ahmed and Monirul Islam were also present on the occasion.
The closing ceremony started with a wonderful introductory video of the 19th Asian Art Biennale, where it was shown how the exhibition brought together 493 artists from 114 countries all over the world. The foreign artists expressed their love and gratitude in the video. They also called the Asian Art Biennale to be the second largest art biennale in the world after Venice. Followed by the speech giving, there was also a short cultural segment where the performers from the BSA displayed the plight and pain of leaving the motherland of Rohingya people through their performance titled ‘Rohingyanama.’
The Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh exhibited two and three-dimensional artworks including paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, installations and new media arts.
This art exhibition is one of the most popular art exhibitions in the country among young people. The exhibition was jam-packed the whole month with young boys and girls who came to visit with their friends and family. They were seen dressed up in traditional wear, clicking photos with the artworks.
This year the theme of the exhibition was ‘Home and Displacement.’ Famous artists from different countries portrayed the gut-wrenching pain of leaving the motherland through their artworks. The artworks also depicted the anguish and plight of refugees all over the world.
Many enthusiastic art admirers and visitors were seen on the BSA premises on January 8 on the concluding day of the Asian Art Biennale.
Both KM Khalid and Liaquat Ali Lucky said that they received multiple requests for an extension of the exhibition but had to announce its conclusion. However, the next editions of this flagship event of the BSA will be held for two months, they also said.
On December 8, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the month-long art extravaganza online. The exhibition is showcasing 649 pieces of art created by 493 artists from 114 nations, including 149 Bangladeshi artists.
