Chattogram Bureau :
Under the Cross Border Road Network Improvement Project, the Department of Roads and Highways has planned to open three of the four bridges in Chattogram this December.
Another one can be opened in January when the work is completed. At a cost of Tk751 crore, 86 parts of this six-lane four-pc girder bridge on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway have been completed, including the connecting road.
If the four bridges are opened, the speed will increase in the direct road communication system through South Chattogram with the Bangabandhu Multilane Road Tunnel built under the Karnaphuli River. This will greatly reduce the uncontrolled traffic jams on the highways.
This project was undertaken with the joint funding of the government and JICA under the Department of Roads and High Ways at a cost of Tk3,700 crore, sources said.
