Chattogram Bureau :
32-story ships will start operating on the Chattogram-Jeddah sea route for Hajj pilgrims. Karnaphuli Shipbuilders Limited, the country’s shipbuilding company, has taken the initiative to launch this route.
Managing Director of the company Engineer MA Rashid gave this information in a press conference at Patenga Water Bus Terminal.
He said, “We have held a meeting with 11 ministries, including the Ministry of Shipping, regarding the launch of ships carrying pilgrims.”
A summary of the meeting has been sent to the Prime Minister. There are 10 Classification Societies around the world – which allow ships to sail after looking at everything from ship fitness, repair and operation. I would like to import an old ship of 32 decks approved by Classification Society.
It can carry three thousand pilgrims together. He also said, “If the ship is approved, it will take passengers from Chattogram to Saudi Arabia in eight days. While it used to take a month to reach Saudi Arabia by sea, now ships equipped with the latest technology can travel at high speeds. We hope, through this, we will be able to provide the Hajj pilgrims with a cost-effective travel option.”
