Chattogram Bureau:

Accidents occur on the Sitakunda section of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway almost every day. Apart from this, many casualties are also caused
by accidents at shipyards. When an accident occurs, relatives or rescuers first rush to Sitakunda Health Complex with the injured person. But there is no emergency system to treat these patients. The injured were sent to various hospitals in Chattogram and Dhaka. By that time, many patients died on the way due to excessive bleeding. So, there is the demand for setting up a trauma centre in Sitakunda by the local people.
According to Bar Auliya Highway Police, Sitakunda upazila has an average of one minor accident every day. 45 people were killed and 260 injured in 185 accidents in the last one year. Accident patients were immediately rescued and sent to Upazila Health Complex. But as the hospital does not have a specialised trauma centre to treat injured patients, they are deprived of treatment.
Despite the sincerity of the hospital doctors, the injured patients were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) due to lack of necessary manpower and medical equipment. There are also cases of death of injured patients due to excessive bleeding on the way to the hospital.
