Editorial Desk :
The Ukraine-Russia war could have spread to a third country, Poland, if the missile that fell on a village in the east of the country was a Russian made missile, but it is not confirmed that if Russia meant an attack on Poland, a NATO member. Such an attack Poland will be obliged to take as an attack on NATO. It is believed Russia will not sensibly like such a war, specially when it is retreating in the war against Ukraine. But it is continuing indiscriminate killing of civilians in Ukraine. The world sees the Russian conduct has no regards for human life.
However, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy still continued to say that the bomb was a Russian one. But NATO and Poland have said the missile was probably a stray fired by Ukraine’s air defences.
Meanwhile, Moscow thanked the US president Joe Biden for not taking a rash decision over the missile landed in Poland. Despite all this, at the UN Security Council, the US and its allies say Russia is ultimately to blame for Poland ‘tragedy’ because it chose to invade Ukraine. The missile killed two Polish farmers near the border.
Russian aggressiveness over the Ukrainian territory goes on unabated. According to Kyiv, on the day the Poland tragedy took place, Russia launched close to 100 missiles at Ukrainian cities in response to which Ukraine military used its defense system. True, Ukraine has every right to defend itself against the Russian barrage of missiles.
Since Russia could not be repulsed from the battlefields in a major way, it has become very uncertain when this very impactful war will come to an end. The international community must not let this war continue for a longer time. To stop Russia, only sanctions will not work. The Ukraine side must be heavily strengthened strategically by the US and its allies, because the free world cannot accept defeat of Ukraine to the authoritarian former communist regime.
Our fear is unless the war in Ukraine is brought to an end soon, it may spill over to any neighbouring country forcing to start a bigger war.
