City Desk :
Pointing to the BNP, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said there is no benefit to show the fear of the street to their party.
“The defeated forces of ’71 want to create an unstable environment in Bangladesh. December is the month of victory. This month belongs to Awami League, not BNP. There is no use to show fear about December 10. Millions of people will come down to the streets with victory flags in December,” he said.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made this comment at a discussion organized by AL sub-committee on relief and social welfare on the occasion of the 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The discussion titled ‘Spark of dreams and possibilities – Sheikh Russel ‘ was held on the premises of the University Laboratory School and College .
Referring to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the ruling AL leader advised him not to play with AL as all the AL-men are the soldiers of Bangabandhu.
Quader further said that there is no use in dreaming of coming to power in any other way except voting.
“No foreign power will put anyone in power. Rather, the people of the country will choose who will be in power,” he added.
Nobody can assume power relying upon foreign powers, he said.
He hoped that people will bring Awami League to power again.
Responding to Fakhrul’s reaction over the Prime Minister’s speech on famine, Quader said: “While highlighting the global situation, the Prime Minister said that there is a danger of famine in the future. Sheikh Hasina has said what the IMF and the World Bank have predicted.”
“What is wrong here? But, he (Mirza Fakhrul) has seen the famine in Bangladesh,” he added.
About the rumor that ‘There is a famine in the country now’, the AL general secretary questioned: “Has anyone died anywhere?
Mentioning that people died in Somalia, he urged the confused persons to go to Somalia and observe the situation over there.
“Do not turn Bangladesh into Somalia. InshAllah, Bangladesh will not become Somalia or Afghanistan. That situation has not arisen in Bangladesh,” he said.
A crisis is prevailing in the country and Prime Minister has admitted it, said the AL general secretary, adding that not a single person has died because of the crisis so far by the grace of Almighty Allah.
The country is facing a little fuel crisis, but it has sufficient food, he added.
He said the incumbent government is trying to overcome the situation emerged from the global crisis.
Referring to the crisis, he mentioned that a cooperation agreement has been already signed to bring fuel from Brunei.
Issuing a warning against those who are doing misdeeds in the name of AL, he asked all concerned not to resort to any wrongdoing.
He also called upon AL-men to work relentlessly to uphold the reputation of the party.
The AL president has the Annual Confidential Report (ACR) of those who are doing misdeeds, he said, adding that those who have done misdeeds and defamed the party’s name by being godfathers will not get the nomination of Awami League in the next election.
“This is a clear directive from the party leader,” he said, adding that if someone is bad or evil, then it is the right time to purge him or herself.
With AL presidium member Matia Chowdhury in the chair, the discussion was addressed, among others, by AL Presidium Member Abdur Rahman and AL central committee members Anwar Hossain and Anisur Rahman.
Dhaka University (DU)’s Director of Institute of Education and Research Professor Md Abdul Halim inaugurated the event while AL Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi conducted it.
