Various universities/institutions including Dhaka University (DU), Jagannath University (JnU), Rajshahi University (RU), Chittagong University (CU), Islamic University (IU), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day with paying rich tribute and honor to the intellectuals killed at the fag end of the Liberation War.
In Dhaka University (DU): Twelve DU-based cultural, professional and social organizations begins a three-day program on the campus from December 14, 2014 in observance of Martyred Intellectuals Day and the December 16 Victory Day. The series of programs will commence through forming a human chain at the base of Aparajeya Bangla at 4:00 pm demanding trial of the perpetrators who ruthlessly executed the brightest sons of the country, including teachers, students and staff of DU.
In RU: Rajshahi University (RU) observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day with due respect through various programs. Marking the day the university authority observed elaborate programs including hoisting flag, mourning procession, placing wreaths, discussion meeting, special prayer and cultural event. The program started with the hoisting national flag half-mast atop at the university academic buildings, administrative buildings and presidential dormitories at 6:00 am morning.
In BAU: Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) observed Martyred Intellectuals’ Day. Teachers, students and officials of BAU paying rich tribute and honor to the intellectuals killed at the fag end of the Liberation war on the campus.
BAU authority chalked out different programmes to mark the day to honour the illustrious sons of the nation. The programme began with hoisting national flag at half-mast atop the different academic buildings and residential student halls.
Teachers, students and officials of BAU brought out a mourn rally from Baidhakhi Chatwar which ended at killing ground memorial situated on BAU campus.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Haque paid homage to the martyred intellectuals placing floral wreaths at killing ground memorial. After that different political, social and cultural organizations of the university paid tribute to the glorious sons of the soil by placing floral wreaths there. People, attended there, stood there in solemn silence and prayed for the peace of the retarded souls of the intellectuals.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in BAU community center styled ‘significance of Martyred Intellectuals’ Day’. BAU VC was present as chief guest in the meeting, with BAU Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) president Prof Dr Lutful Hasan in the chair. Acting students’ affairs’ advisor Prof Dr Md Alamgir Hossain was addressed as special guest in the programme. BAU syndicate member Prof Dr Mansurul Amin, proctor Prof Dr Md Harun-ur-Rashid, Registrar Md Abdul Khaleque and many more spoke while BAUTA secretary Prof Dr Md Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan conducted the programme. BAUTA organized the programme.
In IU: The Islamic University (IU), Kushtia has observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day and chalked out elaborate programs to celebrate the Victory day with due respect. Programs of the Martyred Intellectual Day include hoisting of national flag half-mast and black flag atop administrative building and residential halls, wearing of black badges, mourning procession, placing wreaths at university memorial monument.
Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) was observed observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day. Teachers and employees of the university, led by the VC Prof Dr Md Alauddin, placed wreaths at the altar of the central Shaheed Minar of the university in the morning. A discussion was held on the occasion. VC Dr Md Alauddin, Proctor Azizul Hoque, among others, spoke on the occasion. A day-long exhibition on Liberation War was also inaugurated by the VC on the occasion.
Besides, the authorities of Chittagong University (CU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Jagannath University (JnU) observed the Martyred Intellectual Day paying tributes to the martyrs of the nation for the cause of country’s independence.
