Most of the clients of Titas Gas Distribution Company have been suffering from acute gas crisis since last December, as it is getting 1500mmcf gas daily from the National Grid against the demand for 1950mmcf.
The citizens of Rampura, Malibag, Santinagar, Banosree, Muhammadpur, Shaymoly, Badda, Manik Nagar and old Dhaka areas complained that
they were preparing day meals at midnight due to low pressure of gas from 8am, even on the weekly holidays.
Petrobangla Chairman Professor Hossain Monsur said, the consumption of gas increases in the winter and during this time the flow of gas becomes condensed for natural reasons.
Besides, illegal gas connection using substandard equipment impacted on the fall of gas pressure, apart from the risk of accident.
Halima Begum, a resident of Santinagar said, she could not prepare meals for her three years old baby on Tuesday last as the gas pressure fell at 7am and returned after 15 hours.
Meraj Uddin, who live at Modhya Banosree said, her old parents could not take bathing for five days, as she could not warm water.
Titas official admitted of decrease in gas pressure. It also created transmission and distribution problems in some areas, especially in the northwestern part of the capital.
According to Petrobangla, the current production of gas across the country is 2,317mmcfd against the demand for 3,000mmcfd. Managing Director of Titas Gas, Md Nowshad Islam, said: We are trying to overcome the crisis and hopefully we will be successful.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd officials said, the condensation travels through the pipeline with the gas in the winter because of lower temperature. It gets stuck on the different edges of the pipeline.
As a result, the pipes get narrow and distribution becomes difficult. At the same time, the domestic consumption increases due to boiling of water and drying of cloths.
