Call to boost vaccine production for livestock

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque, MP emphasized on boosting the production of world class vaccine to cure the disease of the livestock.
“The government would take all kinds of effective measures to protect the livestock from diseases in the coming days through increasing vaccine production,” he said this on Thursday while inaugurating the newly-built building of Livestock Research Institute in city’s Mohakhali.
Mentioning that Bangladesh annually imports milk worth Taka 1,100-1,200 crore, the minister said if the government wants to stop the milk import, it has to increase the production of vaccine to protect the livestock from diseases.
Bangladesh after attaining self-sufficiency in food production, he said, has proved that it could do anything.
Sayedul Hogue stressed on making combined efforts from the officials and employees of the livestock sector to push the country ahead ensuring food and social security.
Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Dr Shelina Afroza, and director of livestock research institute Dr Jatindranath Das and Dr Aynul Huq, among others, spoke on the occasion with department of livestock services director general Ajay Kumar Roy in the chair.
Dr Shelina Afroza said a total of 17 types of 20 crore vaccines are being produced annually through the Livestock Research Institute. More researchers have to be made through training to increase the vaccine production, she added.
