9 held for robbery on foreign ship in outer berth of Ctg Port

Coast Guard has arrested nine robbers during a raid on a merchant ship of Malaysian flag ‘MV Mia Setu’ at the outer anchorage of the port on Tuesday morning near Patenga in the Bay. The robbers are- Md. Abdul Malek (35), Md. Hossain (32), Md. Mozammel Haque (40), Md. Belal (28), Md. Helal (20), Md. Ismail (28), Jahangir Alam (36), Md. Arif (22) and Md. Shahabuddin (26). All are residents of Gahira village of Anwar upazila under Chattogram district.
Two wooden boats were also seized during the operation. Besides, cash, mobile phone, SIM, mobile recharge card, two hospices and other equipment used in the robbery were recovered. Coast Guard East Zone Officer (Media) Lt. Commander Amirul Haque said the robbers boarded a boat carrying a Malaysian-flagged merchant ship and took position nearby.
A Coast Guard ship patrolling the Kutubdia area rushed to the scene and detained nine pirates. They have been handed over to Patenga Model Police Station later
