Caribbeans win by three wickets

The West Indies registered an easy three-wicket win over Bangladesh on the fifth and final day of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday. The tourists chased 395-run target to win in the second innings and made a record against Bangladesh.
The Tigers piled up a mammoth total of 430 in the first innings on the second day (Thursday).
In return, West Indies scored 259 in the first innings on the third day (Friday).
Bangladesh declared their second innings making 223 for the loss of eight wickets on the fourth day (Saturday).
The Caribbeans needed 285 runs to win with seven wickets on the fifth day (Sunday).
West Indies resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 110 for the loss of three wickets.
Nkrumah Bonner and Kyle Mayers resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 15 and 37 runs respectively.
Bonner and Mayers put on together 165 runs for the fourth wicket partnership on the fifth day before Bonner was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm leg-spinner Taijul Islam when the tourists’ total was 275 for the loss of four wickets.
Mayers and Bonner played the key role to earn the much-awaited victory for the islanders.
Mayers remained unbeaten with 210. His 310-ball innings was laced with 20 fours and seven sixes. It was debutante Kyle’s maiden double century.
Bonner made a patient 86. His 245-ball knock saw 10 fours and a sixer.
After Bonner’s dismissal, Jermaine Blackwood arrived at the crease but he could stay at the pitch for a short period as Blackwood was bowled out by Nayeem Hasan when the touring side’s score was 292 for the loss of five wickets.
After Blackwood’s removal, Mayers and Joshua Da Silva added together 100 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Joshua (20) was cleanly bowled out by Taijul Islam when the Caribbeans team’s total was 392 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Kemar Roach (0) was caught at the leg slip by substitute Saif Hasan off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the visitors’ score was 392 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Rakheem Cornwall arrived at the crease. He remained unbeaten with naught.
Later Mayers took one run from Nayeem’s third delivery and the islanders coasted home.
Miraz grabbed four wickets at the cost of 113 runs, while Taijul Islam bagged two wickets instead of 91 runs and Nayeem Hasan took one wicket for 105 runs.
Kyle Mayers was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.
