A gang of robbers allegedly looted huge amount of gold ornaments from a jewellery shop at Rapa Plaza in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area in the early hours of Sunday.
Dhanmondi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ikram Ali Mia confirmed the information to Banglanews.
He said the incident occurred around 2:00am at Rajlakshmi Jewellers. “The ladies toilet in the first floor of the market is situated next to the jwellery shop and we have found that the grill of that toilet was broken”, he said.
“Around 100 bhori of gold might have been looted overnight. Security guards and other suspects are being interrogated over the incident,” the OC said, adding that police are collecting CCTV footage.
However, Amit Kumar Saha, younger brother of the owner, claimed that around 500 bhori of gold ornaments were looted.
